Water reform
Alternatives Journal, Dec 15, 2009 by Brian St. Denis
New research by the University of Victoria’s POLIS Water Sustainability Project recognizes that modernizing our approach to water management and governance is the urgent challenge if we are going to ensure community resilience and regional prosperity. POLIS’ effort, Setting a New Course in British Columbia–Water Governance Reform Options and Opportunities, compares three options for water governance reform, weighing their strengths and weaknesses, and contributes to the broader dialogue about water governance reform in Canada.
It concludes that clear goals and strong regulatory standards in watershed management and public health, with local involvement in decision making, add up to better governance.
